From September 1, new toll fees per kilometer traveled for heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tons, as well as the maximum fee, are in effect. The National Toll Office recalled that this is the second stage of the gradual increase. It was approved by a decision of the Council of Ministers for the use of the republican road network.
The first update was on April 1, 2025, when rates increased by 10%.Now, from September 1, the new increase with the same percentage came into effect. Thus, the total price increase for both stages is 20%, fully in accordance with the adopted decision.
Thus, the route card, which until April 1, 2025 was €5.11/BGN 10, became €5.62/BGN 11 in the April-August period, and from September 1 it is €6.13/BGN 12.
There are corrections to compensatory fees. They are calculated as double the maximum toll fee for the relevant vehicle category.
Vignette prices for passenger cars remain unchanged.
What do the new toll prices include?
From September 1, the new toll prices for heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tons are in effect. The increase affects both the price per kilometer traveled and the maximum toll fee.It is important to note that this is the second stage of the gradual increase that was approved by the Council of Ministers for the use of the republican road network. The total price increase for both stages is 20%.

Possible implications for the transport sector
The increase in tolls will have a serious impact on the costs of transport companies and owners of heavy goods vehicles.Experts predict that these changes will lead to higher costs of transporting goods and services, which could affect prices throughout the economy. However, the phased increase is intended to provide more funds for the maintenance and repair of road infrastructure, which should improve traffic conditions.
Impact on route charges and compensatory charges
The route fee, which in April 2025 was 5.11 €/10 BGN, first increased to 6.62 €/11 BGN in the period April–August. As of September 1, it is already 6.13 €/12 BGN.This is part of the phased increase in tolls and will affect transport costs. In addition, compensatory charges have also been increased and are now calculated as double the maximum toll charge for the relevant vehicle category.
