The compensatory fee is due when cameras or a toll team find travel on Bulgaria’s tolled republican road network without a valid electronic vignette or without a paid toll product. Pay it on time and the fine proceedings stop. Amounts are in euro only, under the tariff in force from 1 August 2026 published by the Road Infrastructure Agency (BGtoll).
What is the compensatory fee?
It is a fixed amount that compensates the state for using paid road infrastructure without a valid charge. Payment ends the administrative-penalty case — there is no fine if the deadline is met.
Amounts in euro
Compensatory fees under Art. 10(2) of the Roads Act for no electronic vignette or valid toll product:
- Passenger car up to 3.5 tonnes – 46.50 €
- Goods vehicle over 3.5 t up to 12 t – 77.21 €
- Goods vehicle over 12 t with 2–3 axles – 213.72 €
- Goods vehicle over 12 t with 4 or more axles – 301.15 €
- Bus with more than 8 seats up to 12 t – 29.65 €
- Bus with more than 8 seats over 12 t – 36.81 €
Payment deadline
- 14 days from serving the electronic ticket or from a roadside check
- On the spot via POS if offered, or by bank transfer quoting the ticket number
- After the deadline a fine is due, not only the compensatory fee
Fine if you miss the 14 days
- For a passenger car up to 3.5 tonnes the fine is 153.39 €
- The ticket is sent to the owner or user — including company and rental cars
- For heavy goods vehicles the sanctions are higher by mass, axles and emission class
Electronic vignette prices in euro
Passenger car up to 3.5 tonnes (tariff from 1 August 2026):
- Daily – 5.30 €
- Weekend – 6.60 €
- Weekly – 10.00 €
- Monthly – 19.90 €
- Quarterly – 35.90 €
- Annual – 64.50 € (365 days from the chosen start date)
How to avoid the fee
Before you travel, run a vignette check by registration number. The plate must match the registration document — one wrong letter counts as no vignette. Buy an electronic vignette at Avtovia.bg.
